I followed Jonathan Ross (@Wossy) on Twitter for roughly a day. But, as detailed in my tweet on the subject, I decided earlier today that I couldn’t stomach any more of his celebrity “Twonanism” and have now unfollowed him.

“Twonanism”? (aka micro-tugging).

His Twitter stream can be paraphrased as “me and Russell (Brand) this”, “me and Ricky (Gervais) that”, “me and David (Bowie) the other”. Celebrity insights should be interesting. These aren’t. Jonathan Ross should be funny like he is (was) on the radio. These Tweets aren’t. For my money he’s getting the Twitter value equation all wrong. It’s ok to do a bit of self-promotion as long as it’s balanced with content that’s engaging, useful, relevant to your followers.

I wondered at the time whether I’d managed to create a completely original “Tw” word and it appears that I have. A Google search on twonanism returned no standard web pages containing the term, my search did not match any documents. Hopefully that will change when this blog post gets indexed.

UPDATE : Google indexed the first ever use of “twonanism” within 15 minutes of this piece being posted.

Update (15th Jan 09) : twonanism added to twictionary.

Nice one, Google now returns twoanism, get the tshirt order in.

I also see wossy is interviewing Stephen Fwy next week, will Twitter be discussed?

The Grauniad seems to think so:

    pip,pip,

    Mike.

    ps. Quick aditional thought:
Might it be handy/nice/more personal, if we knew who’s written individual posts here on the blonde blog by name, so comments could be more matey/blokey/social?

Dunno if this post is from Phil, Pete or whomever.

    Just sayin’

Thanks Mike. Google indexed the post within 14 minutes of it going up! Grabbed the screens but Wordpress won’t let me upload them yet. Will sort it when I get back to Edinburgh.

The main blog posts ARE all attributed to their authors. The blondehaslearnt Twitter posts aren’t though. There’s this arcane agency of mystery thing going on in our Twitter stream.

    Hi Phil,

    Thanks for quick response.

Perhaps I’m being really stupid, (and not for the first time he added proudly)

But I cannae see any author attribution to blog posts. (I’d assumed it was in the white; “”this entry was posted on….” field above.)

You know, on multiple author blogs it usually says something like ‘Posted by Phil, on…blah, blah…

    Can’t clock that here.

Or is it there, and I just can’t see it due to my Mac, Wordpress Firefox 3.0.3 strangeness?

Or, or, does it look like I need an appointment at 20/20?

  5. phil Says:

    Hi Mike

If you access the blog through the front door the posts are attributed to the author. However, if you link directly to a specific post they’re not. That’s what you’re doing.

We’ll get it sorted. May just be that we need to update to the latest version of Wordpress.

Thanks ever so for the heads up.

    Phil

  6. Teachernz Says:

So in common parlance that’s ‘twanking’ and @wossy is a bit of a ‘twanker’?

  7. phil Says:

Teachernz. You might think that. I of course could not possibly comment.
